How To Write The Perfect Lead Magnet

What is a Lead Magnet and why do you need one?

A Lead Magnet is an ethical bribe that persuades your perfect prospect to join your community. It persuades them to raise their hand and say Yes, I would like to know more about how you can help me achieve my goals

Ultimately, a lead magnet gives immediately useful information in exchange for your perfect prospects contact details. This gives you the opportunity to develop a stronger and more meaningful relationship with them.

So, a lead magnet is simply information so it can be in the form of a video, audio or the written word.

The highest performing lead magnet that I’ve ever used is the written word… so a free report (20 to 30 pages of written text) or a free book download. A book that is 300 pages obviously has more information than a report.

Don’t worry, you don’t need to spend the next 6 months writing a book before you can start building a community of raving fans. You can write a 20 to 30 page report in a weekend and then get someone on Fiverr to design it for you.

Now you might be thinking: Roland, 20 to 30 pages sounds like a lot. I think it will take me longer than a weekend to write.

Not if you follow this simple 7-step system:

  2. Big Promise
  3. Story
  4. Why
  5. Why Now
  6. What Is The Opportunity
  7. What This Will Do For You

Let’s look at each of these elements in turn

 

Name

Your Lead Magnet needs a name. A name that is going to make people want to download it.

The simple formula that has worked time and again for me is:

[Number] Simple Steps To [Benefit] Success

So this would look like:

3 Simple Steps To Deal Trading Success

or

3 Simple Steps to Amazon Sales Success

This formula works so well that it’s often called the Click Bait system. It’s used by newspapers, bloggers and marketers because it makes people want to know more.

So please use this formula to quickly write the name for your perfect Lead Magnet.

 

Big Promise

What is the unbelievable result that your prospect will gain by reading your report. This needs to expand on the Deal Trading Success or Amazon Sales Success of the ebook title to make it meaningful for your prospect.

In other words you need to say This report will show you how to make £60,000 per year by trading just one deal a month!

This is a specific promise that your prospect can see and feel. This is what will make your prospect say to himself: Yes, I want that.

 

Story

This is where you tell your inspirational story. In doing so you build an emotional connect with your reader.

This is where you stir their pain, because you are doing it through your story they will not get defensive. It also shows that you are just like them. You know what it’s like to juggle a full time demanding job and a second business… but this is so easy it hardly took any of your time.

You want to show them that they can do it too.

Build your credibility through your story – your Amazon success as well as your success training other people.

It was as if you had magic powers… but it wasn’t magic at all. You just followed a simple system. A system that you’ve used many times to enjoy consistently high results. A system that you’ve taught to hundreds of people so that they could change their lives. A system which you are about to outline in the report.

What difference this has made to your life? Ultimately, this is what people really want to know. If I use your system, what difference will it make to my life?

Obviously, you can’t tell them what their life will look like.

But…

You can show them the difference that it’s made to your life. You can do this with pictures… you can do this with words. Seriously, tell them how you feel now that you are your own boss. Tell the reader how you feel, now that you are able to cross items of your bucket list.

It’s easy to celebrate the big things in life. You know, the “Facebook Moments” but they disguise all the hard work that leads up to that moment. Why not share with your reader the everyday moments that you are grateful for.

It might sound stupid to you but I love the fact that I can take my daughter to pre-school and collect her at the end of the day and I never have to worry about beating the traffic or anything like that. I can just enjoy the moment. Enjoy the Daddy-Daughter time at the beginning and end of every day.

Yes, I still work hard. But I can organize my day to fit around my life. If that means my day starts really early then that’s my choice.

 

Why

Why does your reader need your system?

Because the system does all the heavy lifting for you…

Because the system is the shortcut to success…

Yes, these things are all true for your system.

But…

It still doesn’t tell me why it’s so powerful.

You’ve got to tell your reader why your system will give them the transformation that they desire in their life faster than anything else… without telling them how it does it.

By focusing on why they need it, you also build the desire for your system.

 

Why Now

Why does your reader need your system right now?

This is an important sales message and ethical message. After all, you want to help your customers change their life and information the is consumed and enjoyed will not do that. Only information that is used and acted on will do that.

So…

Why does your reader need your system now?

Is it because the stars are aligned?

Is it because a unique and timely window of opportunity has opened in the market?

Is it because they owe it to themselves to start living the life of their dreams?

 

What Is The Opportunity

This is where you show the reader what your system is. The 3 simple steps to…

This is the meat and potatoes part of the report but… don’t be fooled into thinking that this is the most important part.

You see, people don’t want things… they want what things will do for them.

Here’s an example to illustrate this point.

If I want to put a picture of my family on the wall of my office, I need to drill a hole. When I buy a drill, I don’t really care how powerful it is. After all, I’m not a builder. I don’t need something that can survive a nuclear war. I just want something that’s powerful enough and easy to use.

What I want to be told is that this particular drill is going to make it easier for me to hang a picture than any other.

The same thing is true for your customers. They want the transformation not the system. You need to show them what the system is (show them the drill) just enough so that they understand what they are buying. Any more than that and you are likely to lose them.

 

What This Will Do For You

This links back to your story and gives you the opportunity to share testimonials from people that have used your system to achieve extraordinary results.

This is really what people are buying. The result. The outcome. The destination. The transformation.

So, you need to paint this picture as brightly and vividly as possible.

Here are some tools to help you do that:

  1. Numbers
  2. Pictures
  3. Feelings

Numbers quickly show your reader the level of success that they can enjoy when they use your system. This could be the amount of weight lost… money made… pictures taken you name it.

Pictures show your reader what the outcome looks like. You in front of the Grand Canyon. Your students in front of the Grand Canyon or whatever success looks like for them.

Share with your reader how you feel now that you’ve got what you want. How do your students or clients feel now that they have achieved this unbelievable result.

This is what your reader really wants… so don’t be tempted to skip or rush this section.
