The 3 Pillars Of Business Success

Is it easy to start and grow a business?

No! Absolutely not!

Does that mean that you should give up on your dreams to change the world?

No! Absolutely not!

Why?

Because starting and growing a business is a bit like losing weight. What you need to do is simple to explain and understand. Doing it requires, commitment and sacrifice before you see results.

The weight loss market in the US alone totaled $66 billion in 2017!

How is that possible when we all know the secret to weight loss – eat less and move more!

Well, the answer is simple. People want to know - and are willing to pay for - the solution that doesn’t involve eating less or moving more.

You see, the ice-cream and pizza diet (eat only ice-cream and pizza and never get off the sofa) is always going to sell well. Not sure it’s going to deliver any results but that’s another issue.

So, is starting and growing a business really as simple as weight loss? After all, most people can’t explain business in a 5 word sentence.

And…

The business startup statistics prove that starting a business is not an easy thing to do – 90% of all startups fail in the first year!

This blog will prove to you that starting and growing a business is simple to understand. It will help you focus your efforts on what’s most important right now… so you can easily enter the 10% of entrepreneurs that succeed.

The 3 Pillars Of Business Success

  1. Can you make it?
  2. Can you sell it?
  3. Can you count the money?

Can You Make It?

If you’re selling a physical product then this is an obvious question. Can you make your product quickly, cheaply, reliably, and to a high enough standard that your customers are happy to pay for it.

If you’re selling consultancy then this simply means, can you deliver on your promise. Can you create the expected (and promised) change in your clients life or business.

If you want to start a consulting business and you’ve been delivering stunning results for your company then there’s absolutely no reason why you couldn’t do that for yourself.

The only challenge may be that in your job you are part of a team and don’t deliver every aspect required for change. If you know how to deliver every aspect then the only question is how long will it take if you’re doing everything yourself?

You’ve got to be clear on these aspects of your product (can you make it) so you can inspire confidence in your clients, you can deliver on your promise and you can accurately price your work. Let’s face it, you don’t want to over charge the client and you don’t want to work for free or less than what you’re worth.

What if you want to start a training or mentorship company?

Then can you make it relates not only to your ability to achieve a specific result, it’s your ability to teach others how to use your system.

Let’s face it, there are complex things that we all do every day without thinking such as walking. But could you explain to someone how to get up and walk? I know that I couldn’t.

Similarly, if you’ve got the secret to weigh loss without eating less or moving more… or you’ve got the secret to wealth through property or anything else… you must be able to show your customers how they can achieve the same results in their life.

This is why you must break down how you do into specific action steps. So your delegates can see exactly what to do first, what to do second and exactly how to master each step.

Can You Sell It?

The marketing graveyard is filled with superior products made by entrepreneurs who could not make the sale!

The oxygen of every business is sales. If you don’t know how to sell your product or are uncomfortable asking for money then you need to partner with someone who can!

Just look at Apple. Steve Wozniak made the Apple 2 computer. Steve Jobs sold it. They both needed each other to build a business.

The unfortunate reality with most trainers, mentors and coaches is that they’ve spent years learning how to make it. They are experts in what they do. They decide to start a business and are clueless about the process of finding their ideal customer, earning their trust and making them feel good about buying. That’s why businesses with superior products fail!

To build a secure and stable training, mentorship or consulting business you must build a community of raving fans and make them feel good about buying. That’s it really. 2 simple steps.

Can You Count The Money?

Most people think that they can worry about this when they start making money!

Yes, that’s true.

And finding a spreadsheet geek (or getting in touch with your inner geek) is really going to help you grow your business.

Here is why: Most people measure or report or count what is easy to see. With lead generation, it’s easy to measure the cost per lead. That number is good to know but it doesn’t really show you how to grow your business. You see, the number you must know is how much it costs to buy a lead… and how long it takes to convert into a customer.

If it cost you £100 to buy a lead that converts into a £300 customer in 24 hours, then you have a self-funding sales machine that you can run day and night.

But…

What if it costs you £10 buy to buy a lead that converts into a £1,000 customer in 6 months. You have a high margin sales machine that needs 6 months of working capital.

But…

Without a spreadsheet geek to show you that on average it takes 6 months to make your ideal customer feel good about buying you can’t make informed decisions about growing your business.

What Should You Focus On Right Now?

The oxygen of any business is sales.

If you can make sales before the product then so much the better! And smart entrepreneurs do this all the time!

There’s nothing dishonest about this. You sell a workshop that’s going to happen in 4 weeks’ time. This gives you 4 weeks to create the workshop.

Even if you’re selling an online course, just tell your community during the launch that it won’t go live until X date.
