This was the first time that I heard the word leverage used in a personal situation. This was the first time that I learned how hiring people can save you a fortune.
Yes, I knew that hiring people can save you time. Yes, I knew that hiring people allows you to 'duplicate' yourself so you can make more money.
I had freelancers working for me in my photography and graphic design agency. So I understood how outside experts make you money. And when they worked on a specific project there was no risk. And they were doing things that I couldn't, so I had to hire them.
But over time, I started to do more of their work and worked longer hours myself to keep more of the profit.
As I learned on my first property seminar, this is small-minded, scarcity thinking. You see, the benefit of doing all the work yourself is that you keep all the profit. The downside is that you end up working 16 hour days and don't have time for your family. The even bigger downside is that because I was working non stop on client work. I wasn't also looking for new business. So I suffered the classic feast and famine income.
How would I ever break the cycle? By getting someone to find work for me. Or by getting someone else to do the photo retouching so I had time to bring in new business.
So the property seminar showed me how to become a property entrepreneur. And that meant working with other people. Focussing on high-value tasks and hiring other people to do the rest.
It was an idea that made sense. But... would I use it? After all, it's easy to say you are going to change your life when you are in a room of 30 ambitious people. It's much harder to do when you're on your own and you're trying to use some new knowledge for the first time.
What happened next took my breath away...
I followed the system to the letter. I didn't try to get creative. I didn't change anything. I followed the system and made a lot of money without doing much.
More importantly, I made more money than I would on my own.
You see, I bought a house below market value that needed a refurb. Most of the work was cosmetic such as painting. It needed a new kitchen, something I couldn't do. It needed new flooring throughout. It needed a new bathroom and painting from top to bottom.
I could have tried to save a few quid by doing the painting and flooring myself.
If I had done that, it would have taken weeks. Weeks when I would pay the mortgage from my pocket. So, I got an expert to do all the work for me. I never lifted a paintbrush. The refurb took only 2 weeks. 4 weeks after getting the keys, the tenant moved in.
It was a fairytale ending to my first investment property. A fairytale ending that only happened because I followed a proven system to the letter. Including getting someone else to do the work for me. This really was a time when I made more money because I did none of the work.

So what do I do? I uncover the beginning and the end of the story. Then I remove the boring parts and reveal the polished diamond.
I don't make the diamond. I just polish it to reveal it's beauty.
A story is not a list of events. A story shows why change happens. When a top copywriter tells your story well, they will reveal your values.

Here's 2 short sentences to show you the difference between a story and a sequence of events.
The King died. Then the Queen died.

The first sentence is a statement of fact. It tells the sequence of events. But there is no story.
The second sentence shows how one event triggered another. That's where the story lies.

They will start with why you were looking to make a change in your life. There's all kinds of values hidden there. Were you motivated by money, by freedom, by family, or did something outside of your control force you to make a change?
Once you decided to make a change, what happened next? Here's what I already know. You immediately ran into a roadblock. That hurt and you didn't want to do it again. So... what was the roadblock and how did you walk around it?
How do I know you ran into a roadblock? Because no journey starts with an idea and ends with immediate success. That's what we want to happen. But life is never that easy. Change never comes without a fight.
The big question on the reader's mind is... why did you keep getting up after the world knocked you down 10 times?
The answer to that question reveals your values.
A top copywriter is much more than a wordsmith. They know about the process of grabbing attention, earning trust, giving undeniable social proof and then making the sale. This is the process that you must lead your community through to make them feel good about buying.
